Giving the Stage to Surrey’s Youth

Meet Four Talented Young Artists in the Community!

September is an exciting month for youth as they take centre stage to unveil their talent at the Surrey Youth Talent Showcase and Band-Aid! We reached out to four young artists who are participating in these events to talk about their passion for visual and performing arts.

UrbanScreen Community Art Night

September 18 | 8–9:30pm | Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre

Visit UrbanScreen at Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre for an evening of digital art. See screenings of films made by local youth, animations made by participants in the Surrey Art Gallery’s Art Together program with artist-in-residence Cindy Mochizuki and a live, interactive version of Faisal Anwar’s CharBagh project.

Escape the Room: Stranger Things

September 24 | 4–6pm | Surrey Libraries–Guildford

Do you like the TV show Stranger Things? Sign up to be part of a team, find clues and solve puzzles to Escape the Room before time runs out! Single players will be placed on a team. Registration required; contact the branch to sign-up.

Surrey Youth Perform at Upcoming Events

Cheer your favourite youth artists as they set the stage on fire with their performances at the Surrey Youth Talent Showcase at Fleetwood Festival on September 7 and the Band-Aid Concert at Surrey Arts Centre on September 14. Read more for event details.

National Tree Day

September 28 |10am–2pm | Maple Park

Act against climate change and help grow Surrey’s urban forest by planting native trees and shrubs. Round out your National Tree Day celebration with live music, face painting, nature activities and a free hotdog lunch (while supplies last). Everyone is welcome to participate–no experience is required. Tools and training are provided.

New Fall Arena Programs are Here

Learn to skate, play hockey, drop in for figure skating, or have fun at a family or public skate. Starting September 30, drop in for public skating at the new North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex, featuring three sheets of ice, skate and helmet rentals and three-hour free parking across the Scott Road SkyTrain station.

Creative Skill Share: Leadership Training

October 2–November 18 | Various Times & Locations

Develop your creativity and leadership skills as we work together to plan the annual Holiday Art Jam event. This is a great chance to meet other creative youth and work as a team. No previous leadership or art experience required. This is a free drop-in session, open to youth 12 to 18 years old.
